Back in the studio

Last Friday we have been recording The Clash song Deny with producer/engineer Ryan Hadlock for the forthcoming compilation Hearts & Minds & Crooked Beats. Old friend and multi-instrumentalist Wim Elzinga joined us on banjo for the occassion.

It was great to work with Ryan and we are very proud of the results!

Benefiting the International Rescue Committee, Hearts & Minds & Crooked Beats will feature bands and visual artists who created work inspired by The Clash and celebrating their music and human rights message.

The album will be released as a limited edition LP & as a digital download on World Refugee Day, June 20, 2020.

And that is not all, as we’ve also resumed working on a new Labasheeda record with Jan Schenk. Stay tuned!

Release party + other upcoming gigs

This Saturday there will be a Changing Lights release party at De Nieuwe Anita in Amsterdam. The line-up also features The Howl Ensemble and Mankes, while DJ Viso will be spinning some records. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Next week we're playing at Vessel 11 (Rotterdam) with Laura Palmer. And after that, we'll do a short tour through France and Belgium in October (see agenda for more info).

During all of those gigs, Labasheeda will be expanded to a quartet for the about half of the set, featuring Francesco 'Fuzz' Frabollini on bass.

Changing Lights - out now!

Our new album, Changing Lights, has been released today!

The LP is pressed on transparent blue vinyl and includes a download card (it's also available as a separate digital download).

You can buy a copy here - or you can go to the 'store' page on this site.

UPDATE: The whole album can be streamed at the VPRO/3voor12 Luisterpaal.

Changing Lights & Corno

On May 18 we will release our fourth full-length album, titled Changing Lights (the last part in our 'light' trilogy, if you like). It will be available on blue vinyl and as a digital download - yes we know, if we were really modern it would have been available on cassette as well. You can listen to the the song Head in the music player, a video of the title track was made by Pim Christian.

Sadly, this is also our goodbye to Corno Zwetsloot, who engineered our records the last couple of years. He was already terribly ill during the sessions and died just a few months later, in November 2014. He was a fine engineer, a good friend, and an extraordinary human being.

Thanks for everything, Corno.

Labasheeda 2015

The last months we've been busy finishing the new album and rehearsing with our new drummer, Aletta Verwoerd.

After supporting King Champion Sounds in Leeuwarden (our first gig in almost a year!), we'll be playing in Amsterdam on April 11, followed by a tour through Germany and the Czech Republic (check the agenda for dates).

More info on the new record (to be released in May) coming soon...

In the studio again

From June 7-9 we recorded the basic tracks for our new album at Next to Jaap. Ten new songs, plus a cover of The Who's Circles and an electric re-make of My Instincts (released last year on a 7"). Overdubbing and mixing will be done in the coming weeks, so the record should be finished before the summer holidays!

Touring & recording

Labasheeda will be touring the UK again in March. We are playing in London, Glasgow, Preston, York, Sheffield, and Bornemouth (see agenda for details).

After that we will be recording a couple of songs with Corno Zwetsloot at the Next to Jaap studio for our new album.

December 2013: a new 7-inch, more gigs

From December 9 our new 7" is available, featuring the Yoko Ono cover Listen, the Snow Is Falling, a mellow version of Black Blood, plus three new songs. The EP is released in a numbered edition of 200 copies on snow white (well, sort of) vinyl.

To promote the release, we will do acoustic instore performances at the Irrational Library (the 14th) and Concerto (the 28th).

And last not least Labasheeda will be playing at the Christmas Stomp festival in Paradiso on the 23rd, also featuring a reunion gig of Arne's former band The Chimney Brothers, among others.

On the road again

Next week we'll be on a six day tour through France with Bas Snabilie on drums (see agenda for details). In December there will be some more gigs in the Netherlands, plus the release of a 7" containing five news songs which we recorded last Summer. Stay tuned.

New recordings

Last week we've been recording some (semi) acoustic songs at the Next to Jaap studio for a special release later this year.

Those who want a foretaste of the new material can come to Paradiso on July 23, where Saskia and  Arne will perform a short acoustic set (free entrance).
